Galpa Holeo Satyi is set in a middle-class Bengali family living in Kolkata. The patriarch, Mr. Haldar, lives with his three sons, their wives, their children—one of whom is married—and Krishna, a young relative. The family members are always at loggerheads, neglecting the old man.
Their lives change when the servant Dhananjay arrives. While no other servants have survived for long in the household, Dhananjay impresses each of the family members with his incredible skills. The family now has everything they want; they are served tea when they want, the women no longer have to cook, they take long afternoon siestas, and the old man is pampered with massages. Dhananjay lies to each of the brothers, telling them the others praise them in their absence, thus bridging the rift between them. With peace at home, the brothers start doing well at work as well.
Meanwhile, Krishna falls in love with Alok, a college-going student who is their neighbor. When the two are caught meeting in secret, the women of the family are infuriated. Dhananjay comes to the rescue yet again, convincing Mr Haldar of the suitability of this union.
One day, Dhananjay meets a group of thieves who loot people’s houses in the guise of servants. They enlist his help in stealing the family’s jewelry. Dhananjay, in his turn, tricks them and saves the family’s wealth. Having set things right in the household, Dhananjay is satisfied that he has fulfilled his role as a loyal servant, and he leaves a happy, harmonious family in his wake.
